終於在萬聖節前趕起了這頂帽子了。
在我替另一件織物做定型時，多出來的一個晚上，我就用來開始織這頂帽子。起初以為這頂帽子應該很快織完的，誰知底部那幾隻大黑貓要特別處理的。
之前織過魚仔襪的教訓是，間色時如果要跨過很多針腳的，要用另一種方法intarsia。這方法是專門用來織大片圖案的，因為毋須在一隻顏色的毛線後繞另一條線(stranded)，所以織物不會被扯緊而變型。不過，要用intarsia，就要將毛線分成小球，視乎你要織多少個圖案，就要多少個毛線小球。我要織十隻黑貓，所以要將毛線分成十個小球。如果一不小心，十個小球加上原來的兩條毛線就會扭成一團，難分難解。
我待織完整頂帽子後，才慢慢將每條毛線的線腳打結修好。因為有十個小球，即是平白要多處十條毛線。最後又要將帽子的黑邊部分縫好，才算完功。這帽子本來是應節而織的，但我心頭上卻沒有黑色毛線，改用炭灰色，織出來的效果沒有黑色那麼好，但也不致太差。

Bollicine Dolly, 100% Merino wool, 153 yards, 50g, 22針=4吋(美國4號針)；
Knit Picks Swish DK, 100% Merino wool, 123 yards, 50g, 22針=4吋(美國4號針)

I’m so happy to read this post – a while ago, I tried to knit a hat with a bi-color, variation of a houndstooth pattern that I came up with myself. But when I tried it out on a swatch, I like the look of it but then because of each color is almost an inch wide, it lost the elasticity that I need. So in the end, I didn’t make the hat with that pattern. But now that you told me about intarsia, I think I’ll try it.
Btw, I think the charcoal color for the cat is better than black – you (or Baau?) could wear it even when it’s not Halloween

I didn’t realize that there is another way of color knitting called intarsia. It’s very useful when you knit a big piece of color pattern.
The hat is not made for myself. My head is too big for it. It turned to be my friend’s daughter’s Halloween gift.
